Daniel Firth Griffith
Certified Permaculture Designer, Grass-Farmer, Author, Educator
Daniel is a first-generation farmer with a background in high-technology and entrepreneurship. After being diagnosed with life-threatening/altering medical conditions in 2012/13 and after traveling the country amassing over 200 unique doctor appoints, surgeries, and tests, Daniel turned to farming as what he then considered “the last resort.” What he found, however, was a life complete with abundance, joy, and health.
Along with his wife (Morgan), daughter (Elowyn), and son (Tecumseh), Daniel owns and operates Timshel Permaculture, a three hundred acre, Certified Naturally Grown, and regenerative farm and perennial nursery. Timshel serves hundreds of families in their community with holistically-foraged & heritage pork, 100% grass-born/fed/finished heritage beef & lamb, pastured chicken eggs & meat, and a 100% chemical-free and raw milk goat dairy.
A tenacious autodidact, Daniel’s passions of agroforestry, animal husbandry, and perennial systems saturate Timshel’s philosophy and mission: to regenerate the land; feed the soul; and nourish the body (in that order). His deep ardor for regenerative health and land management led him to study under the guidance and teaching of Geoff Lawton of Zaytuna Farm in Australia, one of the foremost global educators of Permaculture.
Daniel has taught a multitude of on-farm classes and events on topics ranging from sivlopasture creation, to chicken butchery, to grazing techniques for drought resilience. He is also a seasonal teacher with the Shenandoah Permaculture Institute. Daniel is a published author on regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and American history genres. His written work is included in publications such as The Stockman Grassfarmer, The Permaculture Research Institute, and The New Lyceum. His scholarly work of the Early American West includes his current project, "Daniel Boone: The Enigmatic Legend of American Mythology," published 2021.
Most importantly, however, he is an unworthy father to the sweetest girl and boy and an undeserving husband to the most wonderful wife this world has to offer.
Morgan’s passion for rich living systems fermented during her time in college. While helping take care of Daniel’s health from a distance, she majored in Biology, studying under a full-ride scholarship for Track and Field (pole-vault). She is a true city-girl turned farmer and is a power-house mentally and physically.
Although her central role on the farm is motherhood and homemaking, she also runs the operations and system’s design aspects of the farm, utilizing her unique blend of biological understanding and system’s thinking. On occasion, when consultations take Daniel off the farm, she also manages the animals and food deliveries.
It is an understatement to say that the farm would collapse without her.
